How to Install Fresh-Cut Sod in Mississippi Heat
Prep the soil, lay it fresh, and water it deep.
Prepare the Soil
Prepare soil: remove grass and weeds, till 4–6 inches, grade and rake smooth.
Lay and Water
- Schedule your cut and delivery with the farm.
- Lay fresh sod promptly along a straight edge; stagger seams and butt edges tightly.
- Water deeply and immediately so the sod and 2–3 inches of soil below are wet. Keep new sod moist during establishment.
- Mow after rooting, usually in 2–3 weeks; set the mower high for the first cut.

Pallets or Big Rolls?
Pallets contain 16″ × 24″ pieces, with each pallet covering about 450 sq ft, and are easy to lay by hand. 42″ big rolls cover about 360 sq ft each and require a machine to install. Installation is available. Call for installation inquiries.
How much sod do I need?
Measure your area in feet. A pallet covers about 450 sq ft; a big roll about 360 sq ft.
